Artists versus Hollywood
A touring moving image program
Opening February 2009 at The Globe Gallery, Newcastle.
Artists vs Hollywood is an exhibition of film and video works highlighting the relationship between contemporary artists’ moving-image practice and mainstream Hollywood cinema.
Featuring a selection of works from seven internationally-recognised artists – including two Venice Biennale participants and the 2007 International Prize for Contemporary Art winner – the unique exhibition focuses on narrative, representation and celebrity, exploring the ideology behind one of the most powerful industries in the world.
Artists include Stan Douglas, Matthias Müller & Christoph Girardet, Candice Breitz, Stuart Croft and Steven Eastwood.
The work of two-time Venice Biennale participant (2001 and 2005) Stan Douglas will be exhibited in an Australia-wide exclusive, marking Douglas’ only Australian date in 2008.
Curated by Joanna Callaghan (UK), Lubi Thomas (Australia) and Courtney Coombs (Assistant Curator, Australia).
Previous versions of Artists vs Hollywood included a screning program that was shown at the Curzon Soho, London, NBK, Berlin and hat Factory, Luton. This program included work from Tracey Moffat, Mark Lewis, Emil Goh, Joanna Callaghan, Grant Stevens and Cassandra Tytler and was generously supported by the followng organisations
